Storia di Durkopp
La Durkopp produceva automobili, cuscinetti a sfera e motociclette, ma sia la storia di Kochs Adler che quella di Durkopp sono iniziate con le macchine da cucire. La storia di Durkoppwerke iniziò nel 1867 quando Heinrich Durkopp, che aveva precedentemente completato la costruzione di una macchina da cucire sul suo co-fondatore Durkopp e Schmidt con un collega, Carl Schmidt. La ditta in seguito eliminò Schmidt dal suo nome. Operando nel retro di una fabbrica di orologeria, la nuova ditta produceva macchine da cucire sia domestiche che industriali. La produzione ed la fama cresceva tra i clienti locali e l'azienda si trasferì in un nuovo edificio vicino alla strada del mercato, Bielefeld nel 1870. La società ampliò le vendite in altre regioni della Germania e introdusse macchine specializzate per la produzione di scarpe. Nel 1885, iniziò la produzione di biciclette in Germania e cuscinetti a sfera che ebbero subito un buon successo. Durante i suoi primi anni, Durkopp sperimentò molte idee e prodotti meccanici, guidati dal suo fondatore e l'azienda iniziò la propria produzione automobilistica, introducendo un prodotto di successo (chiamato Knipperdolling) nel mercato nel 1906. L'azienda ha prodotto motocicli a tre e due ruote. Dopo la prima guerra mondiale, il profilo del debito dell'azienda crebbe e passò sotto il controllo delle banche che continuarono a vendere la sua parte automobilistica a Mercedes Benz. Nel 1930 la Dürkopp-Radrennstall per la prima volta partecipa alle corse per professionisti. Nel frattempo la produzione delle biciclette Dürkopp aumenta, e con biciclette di serie (modello Dürkopp "Diana 215") alcuni ciclisti partecipano al primo Giro di Germania in più tappe. Per la squadra Dürkopp hanno corso: Unger, Arndt, Nitzschke, Renold, Günther, Hertwig, Geyer, Bulla, Gottwald, Sieronski, Klass, Buse, Korge, M.Kohl e Dobbrack come dirigente. Lo slogan della squadra Dürkopp recitava "Dove c'è Dürkopp, la vittoria è certa".
Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, l'azienda continuò a produrre cuscinetti cilindrici per carri armati e armi. The company Durkopp has a history of automobile, ball bearings and motorcycle production but both Kochs Adler and Durkopp's history began with sewing machines. Durkoppwerke's history began in 1867 when Heinrich Durkopp, who had earlier completed building a sewing machine on his own co-founded Durkopp and Schmidt with a colleague, Carl Schmidt. The firm later dropped Schmidt from its name. Operating out of the backroom of a clock-maker's factory, the new firm made both household and industrial sewing machines. As the business profile became enhanced among local customers, the firm moved to a new building close to market street, Bielefeld in 1870. The company expanded sales to other regions in Germany and introduced specialized machines for shoe-making. In 1885, it began production bicycles in Germany and ball bearings which were an early success. During its early period, Durkopp experimented with many mechanical ideas and products, led by its founder, the firm began automobile production introducing a successful product, Knipperdolling to the market in 1906. The firm has produced three wheeled and two wheeled motorcycles. After World War I, the firm's debt profile grew and fell under the receivership of banks who went on to sell its automobile unit to Mercedes Benz. In 1930 Dürkopp-Radrennstall participated in professional racing for the first time. In the meantime, the production of Dürkopp bicycles is increasing, and with series bicycles (Dürkopp model "Diana 215"), some cyclists participate in the first Tour of Germany in several stages. The Dürkopp team ran: Unger, Arndt, Nitzschke, Renold, Günther, Hertwig, Geyer, Bulla, Gottwald, Sieronski, Klass, Buse, Korge, M.Kohl and Dobbrack as manager. The slogan of the Dürkopp team read "Where Dürkopp is, victory is certain". During the Second World War, the firm produced cylindrical bearings for tanks and weapons. Those products were jettisoned after the war and the firm went back to its core products, making sewing machines, conveyor belts, bicycles and motorcycles. By the 1962, the firm concentrated on making sewing machines and conveyor belts for the garment industry. In 1990, it merged with Koch Adler, another Bielefeld based industrial sewing machine manufacturer that was founded in 1860.
