La Frejus fu una delle prime fabbriche di biciclette italiana, fondata a Torino dal cavalier Emmo Ghelfi (1873-1967) nel 1896, inizialmente col nome Freyus, le cui officine erano situate nel cortile interno di Piazza Statuto 11. L'azienda ebbe notorietà verso gli anni trenta, fornendo le biciclette ad un giovane Bartali nel suo primo Giro d'Italia del 1935, e a ciclisti del calibro di Valetti, Pedroni, Olmo, Kubler, Messina e Cinelli. Nel 1948 le officine si ingrandirono, presso la sede di Via Buenos Aires/Piazza Pitagora. Tuttavia, quella sede durò poco. Il marchio era già in trattativa di vendita alla Legnano e, sul finire degli anni cinquanta, la produzione delle biciclette si concentrò soprattutto a Milano, sede della Legnano.
Nel 1974 il marchio Fréjus sparì per qualche anno per essere quindi ceduto alla nota ditta Bianchi. Nel 1964, fu fondato a Torino un veloclub dedicato alla Fréjus, attivo ancora nel ventunesimo secolo. Il marchio Fréjus fu poi acquistato, nel 2006, dalle officine dei Fratelli Masciaghi di Monza.
Frejus was one of the first Italian bicycle factories, founded in Turin by cavalier Emmo Ghelfi (1873-1967) in 1896, initially with the name Freyus, whose workshops were located in the internal courtyard of Piazza Statuto 11-13. The company became famous in the thirties, supplying the bicycles to a young Bartali in his first 1935 Giro d'Italia, and to cyclists of the caliber of Valetti, Pedroni, Olmo, Kubler,Messina and Cinelli.
Frejus won the World championship in 1930,1933 and 1948 and the Olympic Games in 1948. From 1959 to 1963 the champion Ercole Baldini ran with the professional teams Ignis and Cynar using Frejus bicycles.
In the same year Frejus expanded at the headquarters in Via Buenos Aires in Turin. However, that Company headquarters did not last long. The brand was already negotiating sales to Legnano and, at the end of the fifties, the production of bicycles was concentrated mainly in Milan, where Legnano was located.
In 1974 the Fréjus brand disappeared for a few years and was then sold to the well-known Bianchi company. In 1964, a veloclub dedicated to Fréjus was founded in Turin, still active in the twenty-first century. The Fréjus brand was then purchased, in 2006, from the workshops of the Company Masciaghi brothers.
